It grinds the beans!

Perhaps it was not the best choice for a Sunday afternoon film.

I was already in a bit of a funk from yesterday.  It’s quite frustrating, feeling depressed and having absolutely nothing to be depressed about.  When I was in the brain business, we had a term for that.  It’s called “cognitive dissonance”.  Webster’s defines it as “psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously”.  I define it as it’s not bad enough I’m depressed, now I have to deal with anxiety about being depressed?  The fun never stops.

I did get a new coffee maker out of it.  This morning, our coffee maker started acting funny.  A red light started blinking.  Constantly.  Even when the unit was turned off.  Nothing would stop it, short of unplugging it.  Normally, I would say “f*** it” and unplug the thing.  Today, I was depressed, and we went to Fry’s and bought a new coffee maker.

We decided on this one because it has the best feature ever.  You put coffee beans in the top, it grinds them, drops them into the filter, and starts the brewing process.  You can even put the beans in the night before, set a timer, and have fresh ground, fresh brewed coffee first thing in the morning.  It grinds the beans and brews them.  Two steps, one machine.

You might think I’m overly excited.  You’re correct.  I was depressed.  I like gadgets.  I like coffee.  This makes good coffee.

To be fair, it’s actually a little more work, too.  When the coffee brews, the steam goes up into the grinding chamber, turning the left behind coffee dust into a mud like substance.  It’s easy to wash out, but I can already tell that it will have to be washed every time, or the resulting mud like substance will turn in to a cement like substance.  And that’s no bueno.

On the one hand, I have to clean it every time we use it.  On the other hand, it’s a coffee maker that grinds the beans for you.  That’s cool.  And our grinder broke last month anyway.

And then I returned to the Herzog project.  Today seemed like a good day for Aguirre, the Wrath of God.

Aguirre was an excellent film.  It was a bit deep for this afternoon, not the most uplifting thing I could have chosen.  I enjoyed the hell out of it, though.  I have started writing my thoughts about the movie down, but alas, finishing it will have to wait until tomorrow.  The Simpsons beckons me.

Be good to each other.
