I’m not too old to go to Kids Club!

This year’s gonna be the best year ever
The best year ever just wait and see
For about 45 minutes
Then watch it sink into the sea
Good things will happen, Bad things will happen
And very often I won’t know the difference at all.

The words of Jon Dee Graham once again speaking perfectly to where I’m at today.  Or at least to where I’m trying to get.

I have a tendency to be a bit cynical.  I like that about me, and I have no desire to change it.  What I want is to temper it.  I want to have a finer appreciation for all the good things that are in my world.  Sometimes we, and by we I mean me, that’s right I’m employing the royal we, we focus so much on where we’d like to be that we miss out on where we are.

My life is pretty sweet.  I’m surrounded by awesome wonderfulness at every turn.

Today, for instance.  Tara and I woke up early- early for a Saturday anyway- and headed down to SLamar to attend our first Kids Club.  Today’s screening was The Dark Crystal.  We got to see the movie, and we also got to see this close up and personal.

Austin’s own Mistress of Geek Art (I can call her that because I just made it up), Kayla Kromer, made this with her own two hands over the course of the last week.  Just for this screening.  That’s just one of the reasons why Kids Club is so much fun.

You might remember Kayla from her Hamburger bed.  or her Millennium Falcon bed.  Or her ED209 Toilet.

My friend Noah would like me to remind you that they also have a special Kids Club only menu with Corn Dogs and kid sized milkshakes (that’s a $2 version of the famous $5 milkshake).  I told Noah that I couldn’t remind you if you didn’t already know, but we both agreed that either way you should be told.

If you have kids, and you want them to grow up cool with an appreciation for the finer things in life, you should take them next month. It’s The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad.  35mm Harryhausen, the best theater in the country, and it’s free.  You can’t beat that.  I’m going.

That’s how my day started.  It’s a beautiful day, the sun is out in force, it’s warm, my white pasty legs are on display in shorts for the first time this year.  I get to spend the day with a beautiful woman, who is a geek ’s dream herself.  I helped inspire her to create her own geek art today.  I’m not fully sure what it is, from what I can see it looks like she’s making Domo’s based on classic movie monsters.  Just wait, I bet there’s going to be pictures soon.

And now I’m about to head out for food and fun with some friends.

Good things will happen.  Bad things will happen.  Today, I’m going to try and make sure I know the difference.  Tomorrow as well.

Be good to each other.
