Choices made

But that was just a dream
And this is real life
And it’s a big, sweet, life.

I’m incredibly torn this afternoon.

I can literally feel the pull of the greenbelt near our home, like Mother Nature’s own tractor beam attempting to latch on to my soul and make me hike.  Today is even more beautiful than yesterday; the sun is up, the sky is blue, it’s warm but not hot, we’ve had plenty of rain so the greenbelt will be wonderfully green.

And yet, I’m at home.  Because tonight is Wrestlemania, and we’re going to a Wrestlemania party, and being the kind of man that I am I feel like I need to bring something pretty awesome.  So I am spending my afternoon in the kitchen, making a batch of my soon-to-be legendary Snackgasm.  If one were to look at it, you’d think it was a bag of Chex brand snack mix.  It is in fact based on that recipe we’ve known and loved for most of our lives, but it’s different.  Chex mix is bland and boring.  Snackgasm is a taste explosion.

And when I make a batch of Snackgasm, I actually have to make 3 batches.  If I don’t, all the extra ingredients go to waste.  And that means that making Snakgasm is a 3-4 hour project requiring some attention approximately once every 15 minutes.  It’s work, but the results are well worth it.

And thus, there will be no hiking today.  I made things a little better by sitting in front of an open window, so I can look out and at least pretend to enjoy the nature.

Do I regret the day spent inside?  A little bit.  I probably could have just bought some snacks at the store and taken them, and then I could have run and played in the woods like a proper hippie.  But the way I see it, if a man invites you to his home for a party you should put forth the extra effort.  Well, maybe not you, but me.  Me for sure.  And I enjoy the process.  It’s a little bit art, a little bit science, a little bit routine, and a lot tasty, because after the first batch is done I get to snack on it while I finish the other two.

And then there’s the wrestling.  I’m not going to go into a long discussion about it, I’m just going to say this:  Sometimes, it’s more about the watching of the wrestling than it is about the wrestling itself.  Watching it with friends, enjoying what you enjoy, and making fun of the rest of it, this is the makings of a good evening.

Be good to each other.
