Again with the bacon?

Another long day at work.

And as much as it sucked… and it did suck, believe me… as much as it sucked, I have to say I am blessed with some excellent co-workers.  It’s much easier to deal with this stuff when it’s a team effort.

That sounds incredibly corny, and I actually shuddered a bit as I typed it.  I despise that kind of cheap sentimentality, almost as much as I despise the way that that word, team, is misused to abundance in our current implementation of what some would call society.  The fastest way to kill my morale is to throw a pep rally and start banging the team drum.  Perhaps I’m a tad cynical, but 99 times out of 100, the person giving that speech isn’t part of the team and doesn’t care about the team.

That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in the team concept.  I believe.  I’m a huge fan.  I saw real team work happen tonight.  It was nice.  That’s all I’m saying.  I like several of the people I work with, and most of them were the ones who stayed and worked tonight.  I appreciate that about my job.  And as for my new supervisor (lets call her Tammy) I’m comfortable saying that I’m pleasantly surprised.  I like her.

As I was writing that, I realized that she very much reminds me of Dorothy.  When I first started working at my current company, Dorothy was my first supervisor.  She was an incredible woman, and a good friend.  Tammy and Dorothy are actually mostly different, but there’s a certain something about the both of them that speaks very much to the small town Southern boy in me.  It feels like home.

But I’ve been hurt before, so I’m still guarded.  She did go get made to order sandwiches for everyone.  That was a big plus.  I was not looking forward to another pizza.  I like pizza, but Papa Johns gets old real fast.  And she loves NASCAR, in that way where she thinks everyone should love NASCAR and you’re pretty sure she’d be a little shocked if you said you weren’t but she wouldn’t be offended by it.  I find it endearing, and as a professional wrestling fan I have enough self awareness to never mock someone else for their love of a sport.  I think she wants to give us some NASCAR tickets as a reward.  I don’t know if I’ll have the heart to ask for something else.

My brother is a NASCAR fan.  He played the NASCAR video game for years.  He was in a league.  I think it was kind of like WoW, but with a steering wheel.  And pedals.

I tweeted about this, but I have to talk about it some more because it was the most amazing thing ever and I’m still excited about it.  My loving wonderful awesome wife gave me my Valentine’s present early.  Yesterday, in fact, which technically makes it 3 days early if you’re keeping score, but that’s really not important to the story.  She gave me a big bag of candy and assorted goodies because she knows I love silly fun things.  I now have a spool of bacon flavored dental floss.  I have a tin of Corn Dog flavor mints – the label lists corn dog flavoring as an ingredient.  But the best, unmatched anywhere at any time, was this:

Cocolate. Covered. Bacon.

Cocolate. Covered. Bacon.

That, my friends, is a piece of bacon.  That piece of bacon is covered in fine chocolate.  And it is, without a doubt, one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten.  Think about it.  Bacon is without a doubt the most delicious of all the meats.  How do you make any, I mean any, food item better?  Add bacon.  Filet Mignon is one of the finest, most expensive, cuts of beef you can find.  It’s tender, it’s juicy, it’s delicious.  What do they do with Filet Mignon?  Wrap it in bacon.  I rest my case.  We don’t even need to discuss chocolate.  That’s just a given.  What’s wonderful with chocolate?  Salty things, like nuts.

What else is salty?  Bacon.

And all of that is really funny and clever and I’m telling you from the bottom of my heart it’s more than that.  I simply do not have words to describe how wonderful it was.  I would eat it every day if it wasn’t so incredibly decadent.

It’s late and I’m tired.  Good night.

And be good to each other.
