Everything’s better with gravy

Posted by Mick on January 10, 2010 – 10:40 pm

I was feeling pretty bad about today.  Nothing really bad happened.  I didn’t get to do what I wanted to do.  I let that depress me.  It came on the heels of losing my car keys last night, which I also took badly.  Looking back on it all, I’ve been a bit of a moody bitch since last night.  However, if one is to be a moody bitch, one should at least be productive.  I retrieved my keys from downtown, hit up Home Depot for some supplies, worked on toilets, went back to the Hardware store for more supplies – and then went to work.

The problem wasn’t the flapper at all, like I thought and tried to fix yesterday.  The problem was a seal – I believe it was the Shank Seal, but honestly the terms are already fading from memory.  Replacing this turned out to require removing the tank from the bowl.  I’m not very comfortable with this.  My plumbing experience is very limited.  I called George.  I at least wanted someone to say “Don’t do that.”  The bolts that hold the bowl to the tank?  Locked tighter than something that is locked extremely tight.  Never going to move again tight. We decided that grabbing the Dremel tool and cutting off the bolts was the only solution.  This part of plumbing I kinda like.  Who knew?  Got it all fixed, but it ate up most of the day.  And I never would have got it done without George.  Thanks, George!

My handy man skills are highly over rated.

You can look at the day two ways.  Way the first:  I had a nice drive downtown, was very relieved that my keys were safe at the Ritz instead of in the street, saved a fortune on plumbing, and hung out with a friend.  Not a bad day.  I saw it as a day when I didn’t get to do what I wanted to.

And then Erin WithaQ showed me this.

My friends, I tell you it was as if the sky had opened up and a beam of light shone down from on high and pierced me to my very soul.

Do yourself a favor.  Go back and read that line in a Southern Preacher voice. Following that, you may resume reading in a normal voice.  Unless, of course, your normal voice is a Southern Preacher. If it is, you’ll need to contact me for further instructions.

It did make me really happy.  And that made me want to write.  And then I got happy.  My Twitter friend @Vivanofthelake told me something today.  She said Sometimes, when you get yourself started with writing, you’ll forget a bad day.  She’s almost right.  I didn’t forget the bad day, it just made the day look better.  My life is exactly where I want it to be.  Everything else is just gravy.

I do like me some gravy, though.
